The Requisite About Entry

This blog is an exercise in distilling empirical science, routinely of the neuro kind, in terms that could be understood by pretty much anyone. I am a behavioral neuroscientist and my research program focuses on lifespan neural plasticity. I am interested in factors that exert persistent organizational outcomes on neural structure and function by acting during pre- and postnatal development. I also think that there are times during adulthood when some factors can have as big of an effect as during development. What are these factors? Well pretty much anything. In my research I study a variety of these factors but more recently have been focusing on nutrition, stress, pregnancy and how they impact anxiety and cognition. I intend to elaborate on and discuss these in more detail in upcoming entries. The plan, however, is to use this space to explain science I encounter in my work in easy to understand terms that really emphasizes their particular coolness or, if relevant, controversial nature.
